Coast-to-Coast Doctoral Workshop

A Community for Junior Scholars in AI, Innovation, Management, and Organizations

About the Workshop

Purpose

Many of us study related phenomena around AI within larger institutions which focus on more general ideologies. As such, it can be difficult to find peers working on related work. The purpose of this group is to provide a community of junior scholars interested in innovation, AI, management, and organizations.

Our hope is that in the short term this group is a resource for juniors to brainstorm, get early feedback, and learn about relevant work at other organizations. In the long term, we hope that this group is a source of inspiration, future collaborators, and support on the journey that is academia.

Principles

This group is a way to support each other across time and distance. We believe that careers are marathons. This is supposed to help us find people we want to share that long journey with.

People will run at different paces at different times, and that's okay. Careers are long enough for everyone to be successful, and career success is not a zero-sum game. If we make each other better, we make our field better, and increase opportunities for everyone.

Format

We meet monthly to support each other's research and professional development through:

  • Tiny Talks: Short presentations (1/2-2 pages or 3-5 slides) for early-stage ideas and feedback
  • Big Talks: 30-40 minute discussions of working papers and work in progress
  • Job Market Showcases: Practice presentations for final-year PhD candidates

The co-leaders are grateful to Kyle Myers (Harvard Business School, Technology and Operations Management) for inspiring the Tiny and Big Talks format through his Doctoral Seminar Course.
